Winemaking Philosophy
A small, estate winery, we are founded on the belief that the making of superior wines requires hands-on craftsmanship. We approach the farming of Purisima Mountain with a simple philosophy. Conceived as a "palette of small vineyards," each cultivated area on Purisima Mountain is individually tended in accordance with its unique needs, balancing a passion for quality, with a respect for the land.
Known for yielding grapes of depth and concentration, mountain fruit is appreciated by wine lovers for its complexity and character. Planted in 1996, our 365-acre Purisima Mountain Vineyard was one of the most ambitious hillside vineyard endeavors in the history of Santa Barbara County. With high elevations, a unique microclimate and the same rare limestone subsoil as found in the great Rhone region, this vineyard is perfectly suited for producing outstanding Rhone varietal offerings and serves as the source of our exclusive Purisima Mountain Vineyard wines. In addition to Purisima Mountain fruit, our original 40-acre Santa Ynez Valley vineyard outside Los Olivos contributes to the wines of our respected estate program at Beckmen Vineyards.
