2014 was a great Syrah vintage, and the 2014 Block Six Syrah does not disappoint. When finishing the wine prior to bottling, I came to the winery around 10:00pm to check on the filtration. After tasting the wine and driving home, I was blown away that the flavor of the 2014 Block Six lingered in my mouth until I got home, nearly 30 minutes later. I said to my wife, “I’m about to bottle one of the greatest Syrah wines of my career.” Turns out, it is just that. Deep, dark and delicious, this massive wine shows incredible elegance and energy to go along with huge flavors and structure. A keeper for the next 20+ years. Click here to watch our winemaker describe this wine.

"Another compelling, delicious wine, the 2014 Syrah Block Six Purisima Mountain Vineyard presents a darker profile than the 2013 tasted alongside it, with plenty of black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, sage and spice. Beams of tannin support the long, persistent finish. The 2014 appears to have a bright future. Drink 2017 - 2024."

"The 2014 Syrah Block Six Purisima Mountain Vineyard emerges from the very top of the vineyard. Today, the Block Six is quite ripe and powerful, with the slightly roasted character that is the signature of the year. Even so, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring, especially at the dinner table, where the formidable tannins will stand up to even the heartiest of foods."

"Melted licorice, blackberry liqueur, spice and peppered meats all emerge from the 2014 Purisima Mountain Vineyard Syrah Block Six, and it's a big, rich, beautifully textured 2014 I’d be happy to own. It has good acidity and a soft, forward style ideal for drinking over the coming 7-8 years. The 2015 was completely destemmed and spent 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels."

"Another inky black colored effort, the 2014 Syrah Block No 6 Purisima Mountain gives up lots of crème de cassis, crushed flowers, spice box and hints of chocolate in a full-bodied, pure, elegant package. Completely destemmed and aged 18 months in 55% new French oak, it shows plenty of fine grained tannin on the finish and will keep for a decade or more."

"The 2014 Syrah Block No 6 Purisima Mountain has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of warm black currants, black plums, Provence herbs and mulberries, plus wafts of chargrill, underbrush, balsamic and Sichuan pepper. The full-bodied palate is voluptuously fruited and packed with black fruit, herb and spice layers, supported by firm, chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and savory."
